About Me...
My name is Megan Brown and I am a full-time student and the University of South Alabama. I am currently a junior majoring in Secondary Education. I plan on teaching Language Arts and Literature. I love to read. It is a passion I have had since I was a little girl. After graduating college I plan on going back and getting my Masters Degree in Library Media. I would love to work in Baldwin County; specifically Foley High School.
What Teaching Means to Me
To me teaching means: being able to not only be a substantial teacher, but also be able to be taught by your students. I want my students to have a passion for literature as much as I do, but I also know that is not a reality. I want my students to be able to say yes, I learned something in her class. I think teaching does not technically mean teaching about what you are required to teach about. I believe it is collaboration between many different things. I believe you can not just teach English, but technology along with many other subject matter must be included for the students to fully be engaged in the curriculum and get all they can out of the class.
Teaching Philosophy
MySpace/ Facebook
I see using such social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook as an opportunity for my students to be able to ask questions and receive answers from me outside the classroom. Really learning I think does not take place until after class is over. By using these sites students can also not solely rely on others for makeup work. This allows students to stay up to date on course work and homework if for some odd reason they miss class.
Google
I love Google. Google has many different applications that allow students to be able to write a paper, make a presentation, and do spreadsheets without spending a lot of money on programs that allow them to do the same things. This is a safe free way to complete required work while still teaching and a technology level. I believe these applications help students succeed while they are on a budget.
Blogging
I look at blogging the same way I look at MySpace or Facebook. I think it is a good opportunity for students to not only relate their ideas, but collaborate with others on specific topics. I can see this as being a great way to teach different subject matter and get great participation throughout the class. Blogging can also help children engage in collaborating not only with their classmates, but also with others around the world. I can see this being helpful especially in schools that are fairly small. This can bring culture into the classroom without living their desk. Blogging has so many advantages it should be used throughout every classroom.
Technology and the Education System
I believe the education system cannot fully grow without the use of technology in the classroom. Technology is the future. If technology is not taught throughout school I believe this constitutes educational malpractice because you are cheating the students out of a proper education. Without this knowledge they will be forced to learn many things on their own or not at all. Technology is not something people should take lightly. It is the future or not only our country, but our world. Students are our tomorrow and to fully see that they grow in this world and mature with the time the education system needs to rely heavily own technology in the curriculum. More teachers need to be technology literate so that this process can be fully completed and instilled in everyone.
